I started and finished the book in one day – that’s how awesome it is. It was recommended to me by my husband who read it a little while ago and was really impressed.
I won’t reveal too much of the plot but the book begins with an idyllic scene – Jason Dessen is preparing dinner for his wife and their teenage son. They seem happy, however, Jason knows that at the same time his old college friend is in a nearby bar celebrating. Celebrating winning an award for his work, celebrating further funding, celebrating all the things Jason thought were in his future before his wife got unexpectedly pregnant after a few months of dating.
Encouraged by his wife, Jason heads to the bar to congratulate his friend. What happens after he leaves the bar changes everything – and makes for a thrilling read.
In its true core, this is a love story. A man trying to get back to his family and learning to appreciate the life he had and the choices that had lead to that life. Understanding how making one different choice at any point would have resulted in a totally different reality and also letting go of these roads untaken.
If it’s not obvious already, I highly recommend this book – although do be warned that it will suck you in at page 1 and you won’t be able to put it down until you read the end.
Have you read this book? How do you fell about the ending?
