I recently reduced my wardrobe significantly – I moved from Dubai to Mexico with just a handful of suitcases which really forced me to evaluate my approach to buying things. One of my goals for 2020 is to start building a capsule wardrobe which will reduce even further the number of items of clothing I have. The goal is to buy fewer but more functional things. To spend more per item and to get more wear out of each piece.
It occurred to me yesterday that it would be fun to do a series which highlights things I have done this week that contribute to sustainability and conscious living. I will do my best to show at least some consistency with these posts but let’s see…
Everything about Byredo is just so stylish and elegant – the black and white packaging, the understated beautifully blended scents that linger throughout the day. These perfumes are pure luxury and such a wonderful investment for when you want to treat yourself. They are certainly more expensive than the average perfume (EUR190 for 100ml) but also oh so worth the price.
I have been a fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s make up ever since it came out a few years ago – I think the lipsticks and the original mascara are stand out products. While I have not tried much of the skincare line (I think (!) I tried the magic cream a few years back and remember thinking it was nice enough), I was very excited about the launch of the cleansing duo last December. I was also finishing up the cleanser I was using at the time (Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple) which worked well with my ‘one out, one in’ mentality when it comes to skincare & make up.
I have been working mostly from home for about 6 months now and, you know what? It can be really isolating at times! Like most of the time. I have fallen into a trap where I stay in my PJ’s all day, with my hair up in an odd shapeless bun and start working before I even had my breakfast.
Long time no blog… I started this blog after my trip from Japan when I was still so wonderfully jetlagged and needed something to do at 4am in the morning. And then the jetlag went away and reality of day-to-day life sunk in.
So what’s happened since? I moved jobs multiple times. Then moved from London to Dubai. Then 2 weeks ago quit my job to pursue a Masters course in International Relations and am working off my 3 month notice. No one can say this has been an uneventful few years!
With my new found freedom and flexibility (once my notice period is over), I want to resurrect this blog and share my experiences of studying again, life in the Middle East and trying to figure out my next steps.
Secret Style of a City Girl 2.0 is on!
Things have been busy (and, in all seriousness, when are they not busy?). Work, social commitments, more work and trying to keep on top of the laundry pile take up 90% of my time.
… I know I made some.
It’s one of the iconic Carrie Bradshaw’s lines and also one that I mutter to myself quite often.
